Usage
Benzocaine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride form of local anesthetic benzocaine, which has the same pharmacological action as benzocaine and weaker anesthetic effect than procaine. Local absorption is slow and lasting. Insoluble in water, can not be used as infiltration anesthesia, analgesic, antipruritic effect, drugs are usually made into powder or paste, clinically used to cure wounds, ulcers, burns, skin abrasion and hemorrhoids, etc.. Benzocaine is also known as ethyl aminobenzoate, sinesicine. The precipitate from water is colorless or white rhombic system needle-like crystal or crystalline powder, and the precipitate from ether is square crystal. Odorless. Has a bitter taste. Relative molecular weight of Chemicalbook 165.19. Melting point is 92 ℃. Boiling point 310℃, 183 ~ 184℃(1.87×103Pa). Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether and chloroform, also soluble in almond oil, olive oil and dilute acid. It's stable in the air. Taking p-nitrotoluene as raw material, it is oxidized with sodium dichromate in sulfuric acid to generate p-nitrobenzoic acid, which is esterified with ethanol. After the reaction is completed, it is separated, and the ethyl p-nitrobenzoic acid is reduced with iron powder in acetic acid solution at 85 ~ 95℃. Benzocaine crude product can be obtained. After separation, washing with water, recrystallization in ethanol refining.
